Hello Gateway Families!

My name is Alyssa Kuharcik, and I have been teaching for the past ten years. Over the course of my career, I have taught fifth through eighth grade, with the majority of those years spent in sixth grade. This year, I am excited to step into a new role and begin teaching middle school math! This will be my seventh year at Rocklin Academy Gateway, and I am very happy to begin this new journey as part of the middle school team.

A little about me, I grew up in Hawaii and have lived in the Auburn/Grass Valley area for the past 20 years. I attended University of California, Davis, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. After graduating, I began substitute teaching and quickly discovered how much I loved working with students. That experience inspired me to pursue teaching full-time through the CalStateTEACH program, and I have been teaching ever since.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy spending time with family and friends and love reading in my spare time. You can also find me paddle boarding when the weather is nice and baking or crafting when it isn’t.

One of my favorite parts of teaching middle school is helping students grow both academically and personally during such an important stage of their lives. I love getting to know each student’s unique personality, building strong relationships, and creating a classroom where students feel supported, encouraged, and confident trying new things.

As a math teacher, I strive to help students build confidence in their problem-solving abilities and develop a deeper understanding of mathematical thinking. I believe in creating a classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and learning from mistakes. My goal is to empower students to take ownership of their learning while developing the skills and confidence they need for future success. I am looking forward to partnering with students and families for an amazing school year!
