Hello Sixth Grade Families! My name is Alyssa Kuharcik and I have been teaching for the last six years. I have taught fifth - eighth grade, but sixth is definitely my favorite! This will be my third year at Rocklin Academy Gateway and I am so happy to be continuing my journey on the sixth grade team!
A little more about me, I grew up in Hawaii, but I've lived in the Auburn/Grass Valley area for the past 15 years. I went to UC Davis to get my bachelors in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and after graduation I started substitute teaching and fell in love with it. I realized that I loved teaching and wanted to pursue it further so I enrolled in the CalStateTEACH program and have been teaching ever since! I enjoy spending time with family and friends, I love to read in my spare time and I have an obsession with Harry Potter. I enjoy theming my classroom in "Harry Potter" and sharing it with my students.
I am so happy to be able to teach sixth grade! I have found that I enjoy working with sixth graders to discover not only their passion for learning, but also watching them come into their own as young adults. I enjoy getting to know them and their individual personalities in order to establish great relationships with them. My classroom is always a place where students are supported in trying new things and are encouraged to develop a passion for learning. I believe in empowering them to take ownership of their education. I am looking forward to working with my students and their parents to have an amazing school year!
