My name is Alissa Byrne, and I am thrilled to be returning for my 12th year as an educator at Rocklin Academy Gateway. I've had various roles during this time: teaching in a classroom, supporting new teacher, and now, as an Enrichment Support Specialist partnering with teachers to provide intervention during daily Enrichment Block ("E-Block").

I was born in Issaquah, Washington, where I lived until I was 18. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. From there, I was a 2007 Teach for America corps member in Los Angeles, receiving both my teaching credential and master's degree in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. I have taught both first and second grades in my 19 years of teaching - seventeen of these nineteen years have been at public charter schools.

My husband Bryan and I have three kids: 7th and 9th grade daughters who both attend WSCA, and a 5th grade son who attend Rocklin Academy Gateway. We relocated from the Los Angeles area 12 years ago to be closer to my family, who now live in Roseville. My husband was born and raised in Ireland, so we visit his family there annually. Bryan and I were both collegiate athletes at UC Santa Barbara - I was a swimmer and my husband played soccer both in college and then in the MLS. I have an older brother who is a major in the U.S. Army and a younger sister who is an RN in pediatrics at UC Davis. When not teaching, my kids keep me extremely busy with competitive soccer (Placer United), swimming (Woodcreek Seawolves), and stunt cheer (Golden Elite All Stars), and a variety of plays/musicals.

Teaching at Rocklin Academy Gateway has been a tremendous experience. Partnering with amazing families, outstanding colleagues, and a dedicated administration team truly creates an environment for our students that supports and challenges all students to achieve at high levels. I’m looking forward to yet another outstanding year of learning!
