Welcome to our fifth-grade class! My name is Leah Bassett, and I am thrilled to be embarking on my 2nd year of teaching at our wonderful school. I previously taught in the Western Placer Unified School District after being a long-term Substitute Teacher for years. Prior to that I stayed at home with my children after working in business. I am so excited to begin another year in 5th grade!
My husband, Doug, and I have been married for 18 years and have three amazing teenage children. Our daughter Sophie will turn 16 this year and is a Sophomore at TBHS, and I have identical twin boys, Spencer and Dylan, who will turn 14 this year and are Freshmen. We are a close family who love the many stages of parenthood! We enjoy the outdoors, swimming and kayaking, as well as staying indoors playing family games. Although, you will typically find us courtside watching our daughter play basketball, or on the sidelines watching our boys play soccer.
I received my bachelor’s degree from Portland State University in Oregon in 1992, later attended Stanford University to take Continuing Studies classes, and then virtually attended UMASS Global, where I earned my teaching credential. I discovered my love for teaching after volunteering in my own children's classes and becoming a substitute teacher. I could not imagine doing anything else! I believe that all students are unique and should have an educational environment where they can grow physically, emotionally, and socially. I provide both structure and warmth and strive to create an atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I can not wait to meet my families and begin working with students to make their 5th grade year the best!
