Hi, I am Kate Stephens and I am thrilled to be returning to Gateway for my fifth year. This will be my 17th year teaching, and my fifth year in first grade!
I am originally from the Midwest and graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. After graduating, I received my Masters degree in Special Education from Webster University in St. Louis. I taught third grade for four years in St. Louis before heading West with my now husband. We lived in the Bay Area for eight years and while there I taught third grade for five years and second grade for three years at a charter school in Los Altos. I feel strongly that my experience teaching second and third grade has prepared me to take on first grade as it has allowed me plenty of years to know exactly where my students need to be at the end of the school year. I am passionate about making sure all my students are successful in their own unique ways.
My family consists of my husband, Greg, our two daughters, Ella and Kaia, and our dog Dozer. Ella is eight and a third grader at Gateway and Kaia is five years old and is starting kindergarten at Gateway. I love that not only am I a part of the Gateway family as a staff member but my family is also part of the wonderful community we have here. I can’t wait to meet all my wonderful students and families in August.
