My name is Alissa Byrne, and I am thrilled to be returning for my tenth year as an educator at Rocklin Academy Gateway.

I was born in Issaquah, Washington, where I lived until I was 18. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. From there, I was a 2007 Teach for America corps member in Los Angeles, receiving both my teaching credential and master's degree in Elementary Education from Loyola Marymount University. I have taught both first and second grades in my 17 years of teaching - fifteen of these seventeen years have been at public charter schools.

My husband Bryan and I have three kids: a 7th grade daughter who attends WSCA, and a 5th grade daughter and 3rd grade son who both attend Rocklin Academy Gateway. We relocated from the Los Angeles area nine years ago to be closer to my family, who now live in Roseville. My husband was born and raised in Ireland, so we visit his family there annually. Bryan and I were both collegiate athletes at UC Santa Barbara - I was a swimmer and my husband played soccer both in college and then in the MLS. I have an older brother who is a major in the U.S. Army and a younger sister who is an RN in pediatrics at UC Davis. When not teaching, you can find me at a Roseville Premier soccer game, a Woodcreek Seawolves/CCA swim meet, or with our church family at Bridgeway.

Continuing this year, I will have the privilege of serving our school as a full-time Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). In this position, I will have the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers in the elementary grade-level span to maximize instructional minutes by creating evidence-based systems and procedures to meet the unique learning needs of classrooms of students.

Teaching at Rocklin Academy Gateway has been a tremendous experience. Partnering with amazing families, outstanding colleagues, and a dedicated administration team truly creates an environment for our students that supports and challenges all students to achieve at high levels. I’m looking forward to yet another outstanding year of learning!
